Week 18-20 Pregnancy VLOG, baby 5 by Teresa Palmer

Weeks
18, 19 & 20!

What’s baby up to?
Week 18
Size: About 14 cm long (crown to rump)
Weight: Around 190 grams
Comparable to: A sweet potato
Development: Ears are in place, and baby can start to hear sounds—including your heartbeat and voice!

Week 19
Size: About 15.3 cm long
Weight: Around 240 grams
Comparable to: A mango
Development: Vernix caseosa (that white, waxy coating) is forming to protect baby’s skin. Genitals are distinguishable on an ultrasound (although I won’t loooooky)

Week 20
Size: About 16.5 cm long (or up to 25 cm if measuring head-to-toe)
Weight: Around 300 grams
Comparable to: A banana
Development: woooo at the halfway mark! Baby is swallowing more and might be starting to develop a sleep-wake cycle.

Anything new these weeks?
So much extra movement! Really consistent now. Baby likes to be active at night time, I really feel them consistently from 6-11pm, it’s so reassuring and gorgeous to connect in.

Challenges
My iron supplement is making me soooo nauseous. If anyone can please recommend an alternate one (and vegan) I am ALL EARS! Otherwise iron infusion hereeeee I come!

Reflections
I cannot believe we’ve made it halfway through. I look back on the earlier days where I felt really wobbly about whether this pregnancy would continue, we’ve come so far! I feel so connected to this baby and I’m so excited to see who’s in there. The anticipation is so high amongst the kids and it’s just bringing all the high vibes.
