Week 15-17 Pregnancy VLOG, baby 5 by Teresa Palmer

Weeks
15, 16 & 17

What’s baby up to?
Week 15
Size: About 10.1 cm long (crown to rump)
Weight: Around 70 grams
Comparable to: An apple
Development: Baby’s legs are growing longer, and they can move all limbs and joints. Taste buds are forming, and baby may start to sense light through your belly.

Week 16
Size: About 11.6 cm
Weight: Around 100 grams
Comparable to: An avocado
Development: Baby’s facial muscles are working—hello, little frowns and squints! They may be starting to suck their thumb and can make tiny movements you might soon feel (if you don’t have an anterior placenta like me!?)

Week 17
Size: About 13 cm
Weight: Around 140 grams
Comparable to: A pomegranate
Development: Fat stores are building, and baby’s skeleton is starting to harden. You may feel flutters this week (aka quickening) harder sometimes to feel this so early if it’s your first baby.

Anything new these weeks?
Feeling fluttering!! Also the kids found the heartbeat themselves this week (Poet and Bodhi) and it was unbelievably sweet!

Challenges
Some pregsomnia has been coming up for me! Little fears every now and then which make me deep dive into forums and read really sad stories that start to spin me out but then I catch myself and remember to get present.

Reflections
The last few weeks have gone really fast and now that the flutterings have been happening it’s given me an even greater sense of connection. My mum has been buying me hand knitted outfits for the baby and we’ve been building a little collection in drawers for baby and just picturing them in the home with us has got us all feeling really overwhelmed with gratitude. There’s something extra special about rainbow babies.
