Teresa and Lotus: Week 1 Postpartum Reflections and Vlog
What week?
1
How big is baby?
Lotus is back up to her birth weight of 8.2lbs or 3.7kg. And she’s 53cm/20 inches long
My body?
Is feeling great! By day 8, the bleeding is a lot lighter. By day 2 it didn’t feel tender down there (unless I coughed violently!) and by day 3 there were no more night sweats or after pains so recovery wise I feel like I’m back to myself. Although obviously my tummy is still squishy and soft and my boobs are very heavy and big!!
What’s something new?
Lotus is having a lot more awake time, she really feels like she’s grown up a lot in the past few days even. I love staring into her eyes and connecting with her. She’s just the most precious thing in the entire world.
Most challenging moment?
The after pains were challenging. They came really whenever I even thought about her, definitely when I nursed and then at random times too. Luckily they only lasted 3 days but they were unpredictable and I had to breathe through them. I found the back massager really useful to run over the front on a lower setting.

Favourite moments
Just everything about how. How she settle when I put her next to my cheek or just when I lay my hand on her tummy. I love nursing her and watching her discover things around her. She’s just so precious and all her little noises are gorgeous. I love this stage so much and I’m pinching myself that I get to experience this again.
Mama time
I’m doing a daily non negotiable shower or bath. The last few days since the bleeding is lighter the bath has felt incredible. I try and stay in for 40 mins and make sure mum is watching Lotus or Mark. It’s definitely some good me time and in postpartum when you’re milky, sweaty and still bleeding - feeling clean is an important reset in the day.
What’s working
Our sleep arrangement has been great. The first day she loved the Snoo and then I pulled her in next to me into the Bundl sleeping bed and bubba bump bed which is great for nursing as I can rest my head on the side while I side lie and nurse her, plus she has her on sleeping space which makes me feel comfortable. My babies have always loved co-sleeping and she’s no different.
