Folks We Love with Musiic Galloway, singer and owner of Luv Music
Musiic holds a very special place in Sarah and I's (among with countless other parents is Los Angeles) hearts. She runs an incredibly special baby music class, which became the place where we all gathered with our newborns to start building a brand new community as mothers. She has the most wonderful energy and we are so excited to feature her here on Your Zen Mama.
Enjoy,

Who's in your family? Ages? Names?
theres me, my partner Trevor and my daughter Roxy Blu 11
How did you choose your daughter's name?
Roxy was the name of my great grandma and I always thought it was cool, also my dads name was Roy, so throw in that X and it was Roxy for the win again! and I always wanted a baby named blue, for the ocean and the sky, but spelled Blu, of course.
Location?
I was born and raised in Los angeles and so is rox, so far!
Occupation?
singer/musician, owner of luv music
What prompted you to start working with kids?
I had been on tour for years singing back up for major label artists and writing and performing my own music occasionally when I became preggars with rox, taking gigs that took me away from my baby or her schedule did not sound appealing so I started my in home baby music classes so I could make mom friends, learn about babies and bring my baby along instead of dragging her to smoke filled studios and such ;)
Where do you find yourself feeling the most creative?
Well it can be anywhere, but its when I'm tuning the world out and listening
Do you have any tips regarding things/places/practices that help you stay balanced?
I like to start my day (well after I've made breakfast packed a lunch for roxy and dropped her at school, and after I walk my dog) I like to sit down, read something from the spiritual realm, do a few yoga poses then meditate for at least 20 minutes. I do this almost everyday, If I don't the day just doesn't go as smoothly.I'd like to do it before I do all the have too's but I'm just not a morning person!
What's on your manifest board?
I don't have a manifest board, I've made one before and was considering ,making a new one for this year, and maybe I will still. But I just believe the universe/god, whatever you want to call it is always conspiring for our good, for our highest self and my thoughts and intentions and desires are clearer than ever, so I believe that when its time they will all manifest. Until then my only job is to keep making myself open and available to all the expressions of love to flow through me at gods will and make my decisions throughout my day accordingly. It'll all happen
What is your favorite book?
The Prophet, by Kahlil Gibran
I've been reading this book over and over since I was a little girl
How do you unwind?
Depends on the day but it usually involves a glass of whiskey or wine...I love a good puzzle, or a dive bar with good food. anything with my man.
Tell us some of your most loved ways to spend the day with your clan?
I love cooking and feeding my family, or just hanging at the beach all day
What are some silly/fun things that your daughter says?
Ahhh too hard to pick! recently she said "mom, you're so cool. it like doesn't even make me cringe when you say, "it's LIT" I hollard! inside of course, had to remain "cool'
What are the best and worst things people said to you when you were pregnant?
I remember someone telling me I was carrying well and I was all glowy! can't remember anything negative or bad..if someone did I blocked that shit out real quick!
What was the best and worst thing about giving birth?
The best thing was everything! I was so excited and I'd never been in a hospital before (for myself) so i found it all to be really cool. Obviously the worse was the pain and abandoning all my hippie beliefs about the amazing drugs and throwing out my whole hypno- birthplan and gong music. also, my whole immediate family was out of the country and that kinda sucked. but other than that, I was cool and I Roxy was healthy.
What is something you wish you had known before having kids?
Who you have kids with and what dna they are sharing is fucking important! kidding, kind of. aside from that, I don't know, they are expensive and take up your entire being, which is beautiful and extremely challenging, but worth the work.
What is something you wish you had known before giving birth?
Nothing, I was as prepared as you can be but it all went out the window when it actually went down and that's ok. no use in trying to figure out what I'd wished I'd known. be prepared but go with the flow, listen to your body and your baby, trust your instincts, we are women and most of us are made for this wether we feel like it or not.
When you were a teenager what did you dream of? Do things look different?
Well I dreamt of making music and traveling the world, which I was fortunate enough to do before I had my kiddo. But, since I divorced my husband and years later had and raised a baby completely alone, in cheap los angeles as an artist, yes, life looks alot different now then I imagined but thats how it is sometimes. All we can do is our best and remain grateful for what is, thats it.
What are some things you really believe in?
I believe we attract what we feel and believe. I believe in energy, love, nature and the power of music, I believe in so much!
Where do your passions lie?
My passion belongs to art. In all its expressions, I love sound and I love how people move to sound, I love dancers. I love art , especially created through unusual mediums.
How has your relationship with your other half changed since having kids?
My other half has 3 beautiful children and we are attempting to be a blended family involving 3 hormonal little women. Having a partner who is an exceptionally amazing father/parent has only made made me an even better mom.
What are some of your favorite life lessons you've grown to love? (even if learning them at the time was hard)
Learning that it truly is about the journey and not the destination.
What do you wish you could've told yourself when you were a teenager?
Don't let any situations dim your light little musiic, shine no matter what, don't worry how others may perceive you, and don't worry that they may not be as talented or whatever, you being you only gives others more strength to be themselves. its ok to shine bright and block out everything that draws shade.
What do you find most challenging about being somebody's parent?
Rules, constantly teaching, and making sure she has all the nutrients she needs to be her best self, starts there!
What do you want your kids to learn about the world?
The world is full of assholes because they weren't loved enough, but love anyway. and it slows for no one, keep it pushin!
What advice would you give a parent-to-be?
Read the books if you need to, but listen to yourself! we are all unique and the same rules just cannot possibly apply to every baby and every fucking kid. so take what you can from those who came before you and throw out what doesn't apply for you and your kiddo. keep a schedule the best you can, when they know what to expect they are less fussy, they know you are always anticipating their needs as a baby who can't fully communicate yet. that worked for me anyway, i knew what she needed until she got boobs!
What is the best advice you have every received?
When you know better you do better. be easy on yourself
What are 4 things you can't live without as a parent?
good sex, the spa, wine, and amazing friends

Musiic, is her real god given hippie name. Born in culver city california, to Brenda and Roy. with a flight attendant mother and a father who was a back ground singer to the biggest names in music, travel and art have always been a huge part of her life. Musiic attended the "fame" of the west coast for high school and never looked back. After a short stint modeling for teen magazines and the occasional music video, she began touring as a background singer for major label artists. Then giving her own music a shot she preformed around town and gave license to a few original songs on various television shows and one bad movie. After becoming a mom to her beautiful roxy blu, musiic started love, musiic, a parent/child music class hosted in private homes. Now with amazing teachers, they provide the music jams to birthday parties and events around the los angeles area. She is still writing music and is a lover of art and a conduit of love to whoever is in her presence.
